Kristen Ritenour, PMHNP-BC
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
In-person at Fredericksburg, with telehealth across Virginia
Meet Kristen
Kristen provides psychiatric evaluations and medication management for children, teens, and adults navigating a range of mental health concerns. Her approach is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that you should feel informed and actively involved in your care.
-
Seeking psychiatric support can feel vulnerable, especially when you’re trying to make sense of symptoms, treatment options, or whether medication might be right for you.
Kristen creates a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can ask questions, better understand what you’re experiencing, and make treatment decisions together. Rather than focusing only on reducing symptoms, she looks at how your mental health is affecting your daily life and works with you toward greater stability, resilience, and overall well-being.

Kristen believes effective psychiatric treatment should feel like a partnership. She combines evidence-based medication management with psychoeducation, supportive therapy, and ongoing assessment to create treatment plans that reflect each client’s needs, values, and goals.
She also enjoys helping clients better understand their symptoms and giving them practical information they can use beyond the appointment itself. Her goal is for clients to feel supported and confident in the decisions they’re making about their mental health care.
-
Kristen stays closely engaged with new developments in psychiatric care and has particular clinical interests in ADHD across the lifespan, anxiety and OCD, insomnia and sleep disorders, emotional regulation, and the connection between mental health and overall wellness.
She also has a growing interest in women’s mental health, including the ways perimenopause and menopause can affect mood, sleep, and daily functioning.
-
Outside of work, Kristen is happiest outdoors, especially near the water. She loves gardening and spending time with her two dogs, two cats, and horse. She and her husband are also looking forward to their next chapter of farm life and homesteading.
At the center of both Kristen’s personal life and her work is a simple principle: treat people with the same kindness, respect, and compassion you would want for yourself.
