Meet Dr. Deitz
Dr. Deitz works with adults around emotional distress, relationships, personal development, and the experiences that shape how people understand themselves and connect with others. His approach is thoughtful, relational, and grounded in helping clients process both past and present challenges.

Dr. Deitz is especially interested in adulthood development and interpersonal psychotherapy.
His work focuses on helping clients better understand how past and present experiences may be influencing their emotional well-being, relationships, and patterns in everyday life.
He aims to create emotionally corrective experiences within therapy, giving clients space to process distress in ways that support greater self-awareness, resilience, and connection.

Dr. Deitz’s clinical interests center on interpersonal psychotherapy and adult development.
He takes a relational approach to therapy, paying close attention to the ways relationships, earlier experiences, and current stressors can influence mental health.
His work is also informed by a broader interest in understanding the lived experiences of different populations and promoting advocacy for marginalized communities.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Deitz serves as Director of Graduate Fieldwork at Healthy Minds Therapy.
In this role, he helps oversee the practice’s counseling interns and supports the development of clinicians-in-training through supervision, education, and practical field experience.
His leadership in graduate fieldwork reflects a larger commitment to counselor education, mentorship, and helping emerging clinicians build strong foundations for their future work.

Dr. Deitz earned his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2020 and joined Healthy Minds Therapy shortly after graduating.
Before completing his doctorate, he earned his Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the College of William & Mary.
His research interests include mental health and athletics, relationship distress, adverse childhood experiences, and the lived experiences of diverse populations.
As a former NCAA Division I student-athlete and coach, he also brings a particular interest in the intersection of athletics, identity, and mental health.
Dr. Deitz is a published author and has contributed to research related to counseling ethics, motherhood and teaching, and the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and mental health concerns.
