Christy Heyn, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor & Clinical Supervisor
In-person at Fairfax, with telehealth across Virginia
Meet Christy
Christy works with adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship stress, identity questions, and major life transitions. Her style is warm, honest, collaborative, and deeply relational, creating space to understand what has shaped you and what may no longer be serving you.
-
Therapy with Christy is less about trying to “fix” something and more about creating space to understand yourself with greater clarity and compassion.
Some clients come in knowing exactly what they want to work on. Others simply know they feel overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck, or tired of carrying so much on their own. Christy welcomes both.
She believes the relationship between therapist and client is one of the most important parts of the work. That means paying attention not only to symptoms, but to the whole person and the experiences, relationships, and patterns that have helped shape them.

-
Christy approaches therapy from a humanistic and integrative perspective, drawing from psychodynamic, attachment-based, relational, and trauma-informed approaches.
Depending on what each client needs, she may also incorporate elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, IFS-informed therapy, and perinatal mental health frameworks.
She doesn’t believe therapy should feel like a formula. Sometimes the work involves making meaning of past experiences. Sometimes it means recognizing patterns or understanding the roles you’ve learned to carry. And sometimes there’s room to laugh at how complicated being human can be.
-
Christy has a particular passion for women’s mental health across the lifespan and holds a Women’s Mental Health Certification.
Her work in this area includes prenatal and postpartum adjustment, postpartum mood and anxiety concerns, infertility, pregnancy loss, PMDD, perimenopause, menopause, caregiving stress, burnout, and the identity shifts that can happen throughout adulthood.
She also brings experience working as an in-house therapist within an OB/GYN practice, giving her an additional perspective on the intersection between reproductive health and emotional well-being.
-
In addition to her work with clients, Christy serves as a Clinical Supervisor at Healthy Minds Therapy.
She provides ongoing supervision for LPC residents and helps clinicians develop not only clinical competence, but confidence, self-trust, and a therapeutic voice that feels genuinely their own.
Christy also presents continuing education trainings for the Healthy Minds clinical team and has an ongoing interest in how identity, attachment, trauma, systemic influences, and lived experience shape both therapy and the clinicians providing it.
-
Christy is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Approved Clinical Supervisor in Virginia. She earned her Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Troy University.
Her additional training includes DBT, IFS-informed therapy, attachment-based therapy, trauma-informed care, LGBTQ+ affirming care, women’s mental health, and clinical supervision.
Her professional background has also included work in college academic advising and career counseling, as well as Military Fleet and Family Support counseling.
-
Outside of work, Christy can easily lose an afternoon wandering through a bookstore and currently has more than 200 books waiting on her reading list.
She feels most grounded outdoors, especially around mountains, water, and hiking trails, often accompanied by her dog, Willow.
She also loves to travel and has visited nearly every state. Road trips, scenic drives, quirky stops, and an extremely well-prepared itinerary are very much her style.
