Carolyn Alvarado, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor & Clinical Supervisor
Telehealth across Virginia
Meet Carolyn
Carolyn is a bilingual therapist who works with adolescents, adults, and couples navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and the many stressors that come with balancing everyday responsibilities. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and centered on helping clients feel safe, supported, and understood.
-
Carolyn became a therapist because she genuinely believes people have the capacity to heal, grow, and create meaningful change when they feel supported and understood.
She works with clients to build insight, strengthen coping skills, and reconnect with parts of themselves that may have been lost along the way.
Her work often focuses on helping people break unhealthy patterns, heal from past experiences that continue to affect the present, build healthier relationships and boundaries, and move from simply surviving toward a greater sense of resilience and authenticity.

Carolyn takes a person-centered and trauma-informed approach to therapy while incorporating evidence-based modalities based on each client’s needs.
Her work may draw from EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness-based approaches.
She is especially interested in multicultural counseling and culturally responsive care, trauma work, women’s mental health, and integrating EMDR with parts work.
At the center of her approach is helping clients make sense of complexity with greater confidence and self-compassion.
-
In addition to her clinical work, Carolyn is passionate about clinical supervision.
She enjoys helping developing clinicians build confidence, strengthen their clinical skills, and discover an authentic therapeutic voice while still maintaining humility, curiosity, and a willingness to consult.
Carolyn is especially interested in creating supervision that is both trauma-informed and culturally responsive.

Carolyn is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Approved Clinical Supervisor.
Her additional training includes EMDR, as well as Evergreen certifications in DBT and trauma-informed care.
She continues to deepen her work in multicultural counseling, trauma treatment, parts work, women’s mental health, and clinical supervision.
Carolyn is also fluent in Spanish and provides bilingual care.
-
Carolyn is a beach lover at heart and is happiest near the coast, sunshine, and water.
Dancing is one of her favorite ways to recharge, and cooking is one of the ways she shows care for the people around her. She especially enjoys cooking with her kids and believes some of the best conversations happen around a shared meal.
She’s also a proud mom of two who values connection, laughter, travel, and quality time with the people she loves.
